Stop stress

Overcome overwhelm

Alleviate anxiety

Rebuild resillience

Anxiety, stress and downer-days feel horrible!

Do you have a nagging feeling that something is wrong but you can't quite put your finger on what it's about?

Have you been feeling disconnected from people and the things you care about?

If someone was to ask you what you do for fun do you think to yourself something like, "Fun?! You what?! I remember that! I really don't have time for that now."

Maybe you'd like to have plans but you're just too tired at the end of the work day to spark the energy up to do any of it. It could be that there are things you look forward to but when it comes to the time you're just not feeling up for it (or up to it).

Maybe you get a cold every time you take a few days off or on the rare occasion your diary is a little less buy than usual.

Maybe you use the weekends to catch up on your sleep bed and sometimes you have down days and just want to lie under a duvet and quietly cry. You don't know where the tears are coming from or why you feel sad, there's no obvious reason, you just do.

... and maybe sometimes it feels like every idiot imaginable has lined up to give you a hard time or make your life difficult.

If any of these felt familiar then you've come to the right place.

My name is Emma and I can help you.

I am a fully qualified counsellor (MBACP). I am based in Cardiff in South Wales in the UK.
I work with young people and adults aged 18 and over.

There are times when life feels like a struggle or overwhelming. We may feel tense, aggitated, anxious or depressed, have a sense of being stuck or being lost.

I offer a safe, confidential, honest and open non-judgemental space where I act as your facilitator in a process where we can talk about, understand, explore and reflect on:

  • the experiences you are going through
  • why you do what you do
  • reconnecting to what's important to you and what you care about
  • any habits you're developed that may have been helpful in the past but aren't so helpful to you now
  • what is and isn't in your power to influence, and
  • what, if anything, you'd like to change.

It may be that you feel unclear about what you really want or what you can do. A part of this is working with you to recognise these things and identifying choices you didn't recognise you had.

We can start taking steps to work through your problems today

I can work with you in a variety of ways:

  • Face-to-Face (this method has ceased during the Covid-19 lockdown for safety reasons)
  • Encrypted video-conferencing software (Zoom)
  • Telephone
  • Text chatroom service (Signal, chatroom inside Zoom)
  • Encrypted e-mail correspondence (responses are single e-mail of between 600 and 1,000 words in response, else it is classed as 2 responses.)

Some of the benefits of working online are convenience to you, not having to commute or worry about parking issues, geographical distance is not a problem and physical mobility difficulties are not a problem.

A little story about overwhelm

Once upon a time there was a goose and it laid a golden egg. People got really excited about it. They wanted the goose to lay another golden egg, then another, hen another. The pressure to lay golden eggs was depleting for the goose. The goose knew that it was struggling to keep up with the pace of the demands on it. The goose felt ashamed to the point where it would rather be put out of action through some injury then have to admit that it was struggling - then at least the situation would have been taken out of their hands / wing-tips.

The goose found that some people cared more about the golden eggs it produced. Some people were more compassionate towards the goose and wanted to see it return back to health and back to being a contented goose and doing goosey things.

The goose's heart was tired. It knew that it was getting sick and knew what it needed but it was a people pleaser. People saw worth in the golden eggs and the goose worried that it would be rejected and got rid of if it was unable to produce golden eggs, or even any eggs at all, for a while.

It worried with fear, "If I have to let them know that something is wrong, will they tell me to stop being a silly goose and to get on with it?"

With tears in it's eyes, it wondered, "If I have to stop, is my goose cooked?"
